Our Counselling and Information Line phone number is (02) 8594 9596 (1800 184 527 for regional callers), available 7 days 5.30pm - 10.30pm.

Women can also call our Lesbian Line on (02) 8594 9595 (1800 144 527 for regional callers) available on Mondays only, 6.30pm - 9.30pm.

** Apologies if you cannot get through during opening hours - we are a small organisation staffed by volunteers, so at times there may be too many calls coming in to be answered and on occasion some shifts may not be filled due to lack of volunteer availability. Please do try again another time as we would love to take your call! **

Can GLCS help someone like me?

6. 'not straight'
7. transgender or transsexual
8. intersex
9. anyone who is questioning, confused, worried or unsure about their sexuality or gender identity
10. family members or friends of people identifying as any of the above or similar
11. people who work, study or have other contact with people identifying as any of the above or similar.

What if I am underage?

There are different laws about the age of consent in each Australian state, but it is NOT illegal to talk about sexuality or gender ... no matter what your age.

You CAN talk with a GLCS counsellor if you are a young person.

What can I talk about?

Whether you need to talk through your own feelings or identity, or you are trying to understand the orientation of a loved one or friend, we are here to provide support and information.

It doesn't have to just be about sexuality or gender identity either - people call about all sorts of other life issues such as relationships, conflict at work or with family, feeling isolated or 'down' or just to get information. 

Who will answer if I ring?

When you ring us the phone will be answered by a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex or queer (GLBTIQ) person.

This is because GLCS is a peer telephone counselling service and we ask that counselors identify as part of the GLBTIQ community to volunteer and train as a telephone counsellor.

How much does it cost?

Our telephone counselling is free. However there may be some telephone charges, depending on where you are calling from.

If you ring the 02 numbers from the Sydney metropolitan area you will be charged the cost of a local call (higher from mobile phones).

If you ring the 1800 numbers from outside the Sydney metropolitan area the call is free (excepting calls made from mobile phones).
